When Bookcase Club arrives each month, I get a little bookworm nerd thrill. It’s a great box for anyone who reads as voraciously as me and very affordable too!
The Silent Wife – A.S.A Harrison – $16
‘This summer’s Gone Girl’ promises the quote on the front of this book – which is high praise indeed (I didn’t read the book [yet] to my shame, but watched the movie). Here’s the thing – whenever I buy a book on my own, I try not to read the sleeve notes. They are becoming like movie trailers – all the best bits laid out so when you watch the film, you find yourself waiting for that joke/crash/stunt. When the back cover of a book says ‘Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage…..as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly towards the main event’. I mean….come on! Talk about a ‘spoiler alert’. I’ll read (of course I will), but only to find out how the author gets there having given it away…
The Silkworm – Robert Galbraith – $28
I loved ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’, the 1st Galbraith novel that I read before ‘he’ was revealed as J.K. Rowling (I think the ‘Written by J.K. Rowling’ sticker on the front of this hardback is overkill, honestly), so I’m desperate to get into this new one. A missing novelist and the return of Cormoran Strike – sounds great!
For $9.99/month (plus shipping) Bookcase Club brings two carefully curated novels (there is a non-fiction option too) to your door. Saves you trawling for decent reviews or buying a recommendation from a website (although nothing….nothing…beats browsing in a used book store).
