Whenever I open a new BookCase Club box, it’s with almost palpable excitement – ‘What am I going to get this month? Will the books be as superb as they were last month?’ – and I’m never disappointed.
The Promise – Robert Crais – $16
Part of the ongoing Elvis Cole and Joe Pike series (new to me, I have to admit), ‘The Promise’ seems to be a crossover with another series starring Scott James and Maggie the dog. Two crime threads lead to the same house, and the mystery begins…
The Girl On The Train – Paula Hawkins – $16
The sharp-eyed among you will have noticed that ‘The Girl On The Train’ has been made into a movie. I’ve seen that movie, and whilst they always say the book is better than the movie, it’s going to be difficult for me to read this without thinking of the movie at every step. We’ll see.
For $9.99 (plus $5 shipping), it’s difficult not to subscribe to each of BookCase Club’s themes. Admittedly, this paperback box doesn’t represent as big a saving on the sticker price as a box with two hardbacks, but a $17 saving is not to be sniffed at. Definitely one of my favourite boxes to receive.
